The Coptic Orthodox Church decided that the churches would open with an attendance of the faithful that will not exceed 25%. Since December 7, the services were held by the required clergy and without the presence of believers due to the increased COVID-19 cases.
However, as of January 9, the number of COVID-19 cases has been steadily declining in Egypt and the Coptic churches are expected to reopen in accordance with all precautionary measures. It is noted that all this time the Greek Orthodox churches of the Patriarchate of Alexandria in Egypt have been operating normally in accordance with all strict measures.
As of yesterday, Egypt had recorded a total of 9,012 pandemic deaths and 162,486 confirmed cases. Vaccination program for medical and nursing staff across the country began on Sunday.
