Consecration of the restored Church of Saint Andrew in Adelaide on 13 September 2025

Consecration of the restored Church of Saint Andrew in Adelaide on 13 September 2025

In March 2024, a devastating fire struck the Church of Saint Andrew in the suburb of Noarlunga, Adelaide. The fire broke out during Holy and Great Lent, just weeks before Pascha (Easter).

“Tragedies are never welcome, but with God’s help, we find the strength to overcome them,” said Bishop Silouan of Adelaide. “Just as Christ was tested,” he added, “so too is the Church, but it will never break.”

With perseverance, faith in God, and a commendable spirit of unity, the Church of Saint Andrew was rebuilt, and on Saturday, 13 September 2025, the official consecration will take place.

“The consecration of a church is equivalent to its baptism,” notes Bishop Silouan, emphasising that this is an event that “establishes its historical presence and secures its eternal future.”

The consecration service of the Church of Saint Andrew in Christie Downs (Morton Road) will take place on Saturday, 13 September. The sacred services, Matins, the Consecration Service, and the Divine Liturgy, will begin at 7:00 a.m., and will be presided over by Archbishop Makarios of Australia.

Following the Dismissal, a festive luncheon will be offered at the “Saint Basil’s Home” facilities in Christie Downs.

It is worth noting that this will be the first consecration of a church in South Australia in decades. As such, this joyful event acquires historic significance and will be a radiant celebration for the local Church and the Greek Orthodox faithful of the State.
