The Orthodox Autocephalous Church of Albania issued a message of condolences following the passing of Pope Francis, expressing “our condolences to the clergy and faithful of the Roman Catholic Church.”
In the statement, the Church acknowledges the Pope’s multifaceted ministry, stating that “throughout his mission as priest, bishop, and Pope, he always demonstrated a deep dedication to proclaiming the Gospel in various geographical and cultural contexts,” and highlights “his sincere care for the poor and the marginalized.”
Special mention is made of Pope Francis’ approach toward the Orthodox Church: “We especially value his sincere efforts to foster greater understanding between the Orthodox and Catholic Churches,” recalling his words to Orthodox representatives: “We walk together as brothers on the path of mercy and love.”
The message concludes with a prayer: “With hope in the Risen Christ… we pray that our Lord, the Father of mercies, will grant rest to his soul. Eternal be his memory!”
