On Saturday, February 28, 2026, a festive Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Holy Monastery of Saint John the Forerunner in The Hague, Netherlands, in commemoration of the Miracle of the Kollyva of Saint Theodore the Tyro.
Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium, Exarch of the Netherlands and Luxembourg, presided over the Liturgy, which was co-celebrated by Archdeacon Fr. Panteleimon Bakalis and clergy from the Parish of Saint Nicholas in Amsterdam.
During his sermon, Metropolitan Athenagoras spoke about the Miracle of the Kollyva, emphasizing the significance of fasting and the selfless spirit of the faithful, as exemplified by the Christians of that era. He also emphasized the enduring value of temperance and spiritual vigilance in the life of the Church.
Before the dismissal, a memorial service and blessing of the kollyva were performed. A special mention was made in memory of the late Subdeacon Dimitrios, who dedicated himself zealously and selflessly to the service and support of the Holy Monastery, even though he did not take monastic vows.
After the Divine Liturgy concluded, the Metropolitan thanked the priests who regularly serve the monastery, the deacon, Elder Sister Makrina, and Nun Anna for their continuous and tireless ministry.
A reception followed, providing attendees with an opportunity for spiritual fellowship and social interaction.
