On Wednesday, December 31, 2025, the Patriarchate of Jerusalem celebrated the commemoration of Saint Modestos, Patriarch of Jerusalem.
This feast was celebrated at the Holy Monastery bearing his name, on the hill of Abu Tor opposite Mount Zion, separated by the Valley of Hinnom–Gehenna; wherein, according to tradition, there is also his tomb, as well as a chapel of the holy Great Martyr Procopius.
In his honour, Vespers were served on the eve, presided over by Archimandrite Dositheos, and the Divine Liturgy in the morning, presided over by Archimandrite Amphilochios, with Deacon Eustathios concelebrating, and with Hierodeacon Prodromos and the nun Euphemia chanting, with the participation of monastics, the representative of the General Consulate, Ms Athanasia Maliou, and other faithful of Jerusalem.
During the Divine Liturgy, Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem arrived for veneration, together with Fathers of the Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre.
The Patriarchal and priestly retinue, as well as the faithful, were received by the monk Seraphim, who continues the work of restoration of the Monastery which began by Archimandrite Eudoros in 1913 and by the late Archimandrite Modestus in 1975.
