Churches will remain open in Estonia during Christmas. The minister of population, Riina Solman, attended two video meetings with church leaders concerning governmental measures that are meant to stem the spread of Covid-19 virus.
The church leaders were satisfied to hear that. In the meantime, many protection measures have been applied but the churches and other places of worship will remain open and will have the right to perform divine services, also on Christmas.
However, measures, such as social-distancing, masks and limitation of the number of persons allowed in a church building, are applied too. But the government is not willing to align churches with cinemas, bars and other places of entertainment.
The proposal that the clergy and other church workers, who work with people, should be among the first who will be vaccinated, was welcomed.
It is obvious, following several debates, that the Estonian government respects the churches and is willing to take into account the spiritual needs of the believers, including the need to go to church on Christmas, as it was reported by fanarion.blogspot.com.
The government assured that the churches were following the precautionary measures and were doing their utmost in the struggle against the virus.
