Churches in Cyprus will remain closed during Christmas

The opinion of the epidemiologists, that the current epidemiological picture does not allow the opening of malls and Churches, was heard.

As reported by sigmalive.gr, at the end of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, the Government Spokesman stated that the issue of both the Churches and the shopping centers was discussed at the council with the competent Minister informing about the developments regarding the epidemiological picture.

Kousios said that the current situation does not allow an opening but next week the Minister will review the two issues.

It should be reminded that during yesterday’s meeting, the Synod proposed the following: “We also have the sensitivity to safeguard the health of the people. We are convinced, however, that the presence of faithful in the churches, depending on the surface of the church and the observance of all other relevant health regulations, does not contribute to the spread of the virus. This has not happened so far, as the experts assured us. Both the priests and the church commission have received strict instructions to follow all the relevant instructions of the health services.”
