An encyclical was sent by the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece to the Metropolises regarding the operation of the churches on the Feast of Theophany.
In the encyclical, it is emphasized once again that the Church of Greece does not agree with the new decision of the government to close the churches on the feast of Theophany.
It is mentioned that the churches will remain open for the participation of the faithful in the Divine Liturgy on the day of the Theophany as provided by the previous joint ministerial decision issued after the agreement between the Archbishop and the government.
The agreement stipulated that no more than 25 faithful are allowed to attend the service inside the churches while, in the case of Metropolitan churches, there can be up to 50, in compliance with all the measures required by the health protocols.
It is also announced that the Church of Greece will appeal to the Council of State against the new joint ministerial decision while authorizing Archbishop Ieronymos to perform the Blessing of the Waters without a procession and escort of people, only with his deacon, at a coastal area within the Archdiocese.
