A long-awaited church construction project moves forward in Grand Traverse County.
Thursday the dome will be raised on the Archangel Gabriel Greek Orthodox Church off of U.S. 31. in Williamsburg.
The dome is 42,000 pounds and 92 feet wide.
The crane arrived Wednesday and finale preparations are being made for the dome to go into place Thursday starting at 7 a.m, as upnorthlive.com mentions.
According to the church’s Facebook page, the reason for the early morning start is due to wind.
“It is no easy job for any construction company, but we are planning to do it by God’s grace and we will raise it up to about 55 feet. That will complete the beautiful location and building of the Orthodox Church,” said Father Ciprian Streza.
