Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus celebrated the Christmas Divine Liturgy, which was concelebrated by the Protosyncellus Archimandrite Ioannis Ioannou and Protopresbyterian Kyprianos Kontouris. The faithful attended the service inside and outside the Cathedral of Saint John the Theologian in Nicosia.
Among the praying faithful, there were members of the political, state, military and police leadership of Cyprus, who attended in prayer the glorious Divine Liturgy, which was broadcast on television and radio.
In the encyclical, the Archbishop of Cyprus recalled: “The Incarnation of the Son and Word of God is something more than a great event in the history of mankind. It refers to the rule of Caesar Augustus. It is the greatest and most incomprehensible expression of God’s love for the man who fell from Heaven. No one could ever offer this coveted redemption.”
In addition, the Archbishop thanked and expressed full support to “the doctors and nurses, who serve and take care of of the patients.”
Finally, he also spoke of the 46-year illegal occupation of the island’s territories by the Turks and, therefore, he called for unity, stability and militancy.
“We believe that Europe does not accept the two-state solution either since that it would create a precedent for other European countries, in which minorities express the desire to have increased government support.”
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Archbishop of Cyprus wished the congregation all the best.
A traditional Christmas luncheon followed at the Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus.
