With deep spiritual joy and reverence, the Holy Diocese of Chora of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia solemnly celebrated the feast day of Saint Paisios the Athonite, patron saint of both Australia and the Archdiocese.
On Friday, July 11, a Great Hierarchical Vespers was held, followed on Saturday, July 12, by Matins and a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Archdiocesan Church of Panagia Axion Estin. The services were led by Bishop Eumenios of Chora, with the participation of clergy from the Bishopric.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, a procession of the Holy Icon of Saint Paisios took place, offering a moment of spiritual uplift and devotion for all the faithful present.
During the Vespers, Bishop Eumenios spoke about the profound spiritual value of Saint Paisios’s unceasing spiritual journey. The Saint never remained in one place for comfort, but continually moved, avoiding spiritual stagnation and every form of complacency. As His Grace noted, comfort can become a trap, whereas repentance and humility open the way to God’s grace.
During the Divine Liturgy, the Bishop focused on the humility of Saint Paisios and his spiritual gift of viewing everyone with a kind and discerning heart. He never judged or condemned, but loved and prayed with discernment and silent strength. His silence spoke directly to the hearts of others, and his simplicity revealed the grace of the Holy Spirit.
Throughout the sacred services, the Bishop conveyed the paternal blessings and love of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, who has proclaimed Saint Paisios as a patron and spiritual beacon for the Church in Australia.
