From August 20 to 21, 2024, General Dimitrios Choupis, Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff, made an official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt at the invitation of his counterpart, Lieutenant General Ahmed Fathi Ibrahim Khalifa, Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces.
During his visit on Tuesday, August 20, General Choupis visited the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St. George in Cairo, the seat of the Patriarchate of Alexandria. He met with Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa, where they discussed issues of mutual interest, particularly focusing on the Patriarchate’s significant pastoral and missionary efforts across the continent.
Later, General Choupis held discussions with the Greek Ambassador to Egypt, Nikolaos Papageorgiou, addressing current developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the ongoing relations between Greece and Egypt.
