On Thursday morning, the city of Chania received the sacred body of the late Metropolitan Damaskinos of Kydonia.
His body arrived at the port of Souda aboard the ANEK Lines vessel Eleftherios Venizelos, accompanied by the locum tenens of the Metropolis, Metropolitan Amphilochios of Kissamos and Selinos.
Awaiting the late Metropolitan at the port of Souda were representatives of the Church of Crete, clergy, local authorities, and faithful, who came to escort him in a procession to the Holy Metropolitan Cathedral of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary.
From this morning, his body lies in state for public veneration at the Holy Metropolitan Cathedral of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary in Chania.
Metropolitan Damaskinos reposed in the Lord on Tuesday afternoon at a private clinic in Athens, following a long battle with cancer.
Today, at 7:00 p.m., a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts will be celebrated.
On Friday, April 11, 2025, at 8:00 a.m., another Hierarchical Divine Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts will be celebrated.
That same evening, at 9:00 p.m., a night-time Tris-Archieratical (three bishops) Divine Liturgy will take place.
On Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 7:00 a.m., a Tris-Archieratical Divine Liturgy will again be celebrated.
The funeral service will be chanted on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., after which His Eminence will be laid to rest at the Holy Monastery of Agia Triada Tzagarolon.
Saturday, the day of the funeral, has been declared a day of mourning for the city of Chania, while as of today, flags fly at half-mast at the Town Hall and all municipal buildings.
