The cooperation between Cyprus and the historic Cairo’s Ampetios School is growing even strong.
It is an effort launched at the initiative of Presidential Commissioner Fotis Fotiou. In recent years, the students of the historic school visited Nicosia and Paphos, met the President of Cypriot Parliament, Dimitris Syllouris, went to the Presidential Palace, were received by the Archbishop of Cyprus and met the Mayor of Paphos.
During this year’s celebration of the Three Holy Hierarchs in Cairo, the Deputy Head Mistress of the Ampetios School, Sotiria Mpeta, said to the Patriarch of Alexandria that the pupils decided to visit Cyprus again to further strengthen their relations with the schools of Cyprus.
He thanked Fotis Fotiou for his great love for Egyptian youth as he always expresses it when visiting Cairo and Nicosia. She also thanked the Cypriot diplomatic authorities in Egypt, the new Ambassador Omiros Mavromatis, who said that he would always be on the side of the Egyptian youth, as well as its predecessor, Charis Moritsis.
On his part, Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria also expressed his support for the initiative taken by the students of the Ampetios School to continue and strengthen their relations with Cyprus.
In fact, he instructed the Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo, Metropolitan Nikodimos of Memphis, to contact the Exarch of the Patriarchate of Alexandria in Nicosia, Bishop Nikodimos of Nitria, to welcome the Egyptian pupils when they arrive in Cyprus on spring.
