Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev said that respect for the faith of all Orthodox Christians remains his primary concern following a meeting with Bulgarian Patriarch Daniel.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Radev clarified his position regarding discussions on possible sanctions against Russian Patriarch Kirill.
“I made it clear that I am not interested in Patriarch Kirill as a person. What matters to me is that the religion of all Orthodox Christians be respected,” the Prime Minister said.
Radev stressed that the Church should remain separate from political affairs, just as politics should not interfere in religious life.
“I do not want the Church to become involved in politics, just as I do not want politics to interfere in religion,” he added.
According to the Prime Minister, the meeting with Patriarch Daniel also included discussions on the proposed introduction of the school subject Virtues and Religion, which has been the focus of public debate in Bulgaria.
