Bulgarian Patriarch Daniel celebrated his name day with a solemn Divine Liturgy at the metropolitan cathedral of St. Nedelya in Sofia, gathering hierarchs, clergy, state officials, and faithful for the occasion honoring his heavenly patron, Saint Daniel the Stylite.
During the service, a series of official greetings were presented to the Patriarch:
Metropolitan Joseph delivered a congratulatory address on behalf of the Holy Synod, expressing gratitude for Patriarch Daniel’s spiritual leadership and praying for strength in his high pastoral mission.
A message on behalf of the clergy and staff of the Sofia Metropolis was read by Bishop Ioan of Branitza, conveying their filial respect and heartfelt wishes for health, wisdom, and continued fruitful service to the Church.
President Rumen Radev sent his congratulations to the Patriarch, highlighting the Church’s important role in preserving national values, unity, and moral foundations.
Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov also addressed a formal greeting to Patriarch Daniel; the message was read by Nikola Petkov, Director of Religious Affairs at the Council of Ministers. The Prime Minister extended best wishes and acknowledged the Patriarch’s commitment to peace, dialogue, and the spiritual well-being of the Bulgarian people.
At the conclusion of the celebration, Patriarch Daniel delivered a heartfelt address reflecting on the life and witness of Saint Daniel the Stylite, whose steadfast asceticism and unwavering faith continue to inspire Christians today. The Patriarch expressed gratitude for the prayerful support shown to him and called for unity, humility, and renewed dedication to the Gospel.
