Bulgarian Patriarch Daniel, received the Grand Mufti of Bulgaria, Dr. Mustafa Hadzhi, at the Synodal Palace on February 18, 2025.
During the discussions, both sides highlighted the positive relationship between the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and the Grand Mufti’s Office, emphasizing the importance of collaboration on key social issues affecting both Christian and Muslim communities in Bulgaria.
A major point of agreement was the need to introduce the subject of “Religion” into the regular curriculum of Bulgarian schools. They expressed confidence that this initiative would enhance the country’s spiritual climate and contribute to the religious literacy of young generations regarding their faith.
Patriarch Daniel and Grand Mufti Mustafa Hadzhi also discussed the challenges facing Bulgarian society, particularly the risks to the physical and spiritual well-being of children and youth. They addressed the importance of combating addictions and the role that traditional religious communities can play in prevention efforts.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to organizing joint initiatives aimed at supporting the spiritual well-being of the Bulgarian people. Symbolic gifts were also exchanged as a gesture of goodwill.
