The caretaker government of Bulgaria announced today the approval of funds for renovating three churches and upgrading the road leading to the Bulgarian Monastery of St. George the Great Martyr on Mount Athos.
Approximately 2.7 million leva (1.38 million euros) will be allocated for the repair, restoration, and reconstruction of the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Svishtov. Nearly 500,000 leva (255,000 euros) will be directed toward the historic Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, and 74,000 leva (38,000 euros) will fund the renovation of another Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in the village of Gigintsi.
Additionally, the government has set aside 3 million leva (1.53 million euros) to commence repair work on the road to the Monastery of St. George the Great Martyr on Mount Athos. The total estimated cost for the road upgrade is approximately 10 million leva (5.11 million euros), with funds to be allocated gradually over time.
These initiatives reflect the Bulgarian government’s commitment to preserving cultural and religious heritage, as well as improving infrastructure to support significant spiritual sites.
