On Saturday, 4 April 2026, on the eve of the great feast of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem (Palm Sunday), the Romanian Patriarchate and the Archdiocese of Bucharest will organise the Palm Sunday Procession in Bucharest, with the participation of hierarchs, priests, monastics, and lay faithful from Romania’s capital and Ilfov County.
This religious and missionary event is organised with the support of the Basilica Media Centre of the Romanian Patriarchate.
The pilgrimage will begin at the National Cathedral and will follow this route: Izvor Street, the Chapel of the National Cathedral (first stop), 13 September Ave, Libertății Boulevard, Constitution Square, Unirii Boulevard, Unirii Square (western side), the Brâncoveanu Cross (second stop), Patriarchal Hill, and the Patriarchal Cathedral.
The procession will conclude at the Patriarchal Cathedral, where the pilgrims will be received by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Church.
Main Moments of the Procession
15:00 – Vespers service at the National Cathedral;
16:00 – Blessing of willow branches at the National Cathedral, which will then be distributed to the faithful;
16:15 – Departure in procession from the National Cathedral to the Patriarchal Cathedral;
16:30 – Stop at the Chapel of the National Cathedral (first stop);
17:30 – Arrival at the Brâncoveanu Cross at the base of Patriarchal Hill (second stop);
17:35 – Departure towards the Patriarchal Cathedral;
17:45 – Arrival at the Patriarchal Cathedral, where His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel will bless the icon of the Feast of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem, offer a prayer of blessing for the pilgrims, and deliver an address.
