Bolaris: The Delegation of the Monastery of Great Lavra of Mount Athos has crossed the line

Bolaris: The Church practices diplomacy every day

former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs M. Bolaris

The delegation of the Holy Monastery of Great Lavra on Mount Athos has “crossed the line” with its statements after the meeting with the Minister of Development and Investments, Adonis Georgiadis, said the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of SYRIZA, Markos Bolaris.

Referring to a statement by the hieromonk Nicodemos, Mr. Bolaris wrote in a post on Facebook:

“The clear distinction of the roles between the State and the Church, formulated 2,000 years ago by the founder of the Church, Jesus Christ, has apparently escaped the attention of the Mount Athos’ delegation which visited the Ministry of Development.

Its statements have crossed the line! Discreet roles have been ignored! Do these statements also express the Holy Community of Mount Athos? An answer is imperative. Not for the writer. But for the People who was thunderstruck when informed about it. The Evangelist Matthew, in this case, is simple and inclusive: “Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.”

In his statement, the hieromonk Nicodemos said, among other things, “All of us on Mount Athos, we feel a great obligation to congratulate the Prime Minister of Greece because he makes us feel that we do have a Prime Minister. This is a big deal.” And we feel that we live in a well-governed state. We firmly believe that since the beginning of his governance, he has done more than he had said before the elections. We saw for the first time things that were not pre-announced to take place.”
