The patriarchal auxiliary bishop Ieronim of Sinaia visited the Romanian Skete of the Honourable Forerunner (Prodromos) on Mount Athos for the feast of the Nativity of the Lord according to the unrevised Julian calendar.

During the festive Divine Liturgy on Christmas Day, Bishop Ieronim ordained hierodeacon Teofil Covaci to the priesthood and monk Iacov Constantin to the diaconate.

The patriarchal auxiliary bishop read out Patriarch Daniel’s Christmas message and congratulated the newly ordained clergy. Bishop Ieronim also appreciated the mission of all the monks at the Romanian Skete.

“They carry out extensive activities and projects whose purpose is to maintain, to promote and to affirm the cultural, ethnic, linguistic and religious identity, respectively, to promote the Romanian cultural, spiritual and scientific values.”

Patriarch Daniel sent to the Romanian Skete, several books of worship and other volumes published by the Romanian Patriarchate.

Concelebrant for the Divine Liturgy was Archimandrite Prodromos Lavriotes, abbot of the Great Lavra Monastery.

Prodromos Skete is a Romanian cenobitic skete belonging to the Great Lavra Monastery, located in the eastern extremity (called Vigla) of the Holy Mount Athos. The name of Prodromos is the Greek for “The Forerunner,” a cognomen of Saint John the Baptist.

The monastic community is comprised of approximately 50 persons and is led by Archimandrite Atanasie the Prodromite.
