On Friday, October 18, Patriarchal Auxiliary Bishop Varlaam of Ploiești held a meeting at the Patriarchal Palace with Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, Palestinian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
The discussions focused on the situation of Christians in Palestine amid the ongoing military conflict in the region.
Among the officials accompanying the Palestinian Minister were Issam Masalha, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Bucharest, and Amira Hanania, a member of the High Presidential Commission for Church Affairs in Palestine.
During the talks, the Palestinian officials highlighted the significant role of the High Presidential Commission for Church Affairs in supporting local Christian Churches’ social and economic development initiatives.
They also expressed their desire for closer collaboration with the Romanian Orthodox Church and other Christian Churches in Europe to support communities affected by the war.
Bishop Varlaam reaffirmed the Romanian Orthodox Church’s support and solidarity with the Christians in Palestine, emphasizing the strong ties of cooperation between the Romanian Orthodox Church and the Christian communities in the region.
The meeting concluded with a mutual expression of hope for peace and cooperation to support vulnerable communities, particularly in light of the current crisis in Palestine.
