Bishop Savvas of North America made a statement condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in the early hours of Thursday and a permanent member of the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Georgia.
As he stressed, “I want to publicly condemn the large-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in the sovereign state of Ukraine!
As an ordinary citizen of Georgia and a High Priest of the Orthodox Church of Georgia, I fully support the Ukrainian people and condemn the war in Ukraine, a war that has only brought pain and tears to each of us!
I consider it completely inadmissible for the civilized world in the 21st century to face the challenge and waste of modern resources that accompany war and its aftermath!
I and the Holy Diocese of North America, our clergy and monks, pray to the merciful God to end the war and establish world peace! Amen.
