With the blessing of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, Bishop Bartholomew of Brisbane visited the Government House of Queensland and had an audience with Dr. Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland.

Moreover, he emphasised to she that it was a significant year for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia for many reasons. Firstly, that the Archdiocese is celebrating its centenary since its establishment. Secondly, in October, His All-Holiness our Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will be visiting our great nation of Australia. A historic and important event for our local church. Furthermore our Chief Shepherd, Archbishop Makarios celebrates his 5 Year Anniversary as Archbishop of Australia.
She thanked him for his visit, and congratulated him on his appointment as the Bishop of Brisbane. Moreover, Her Excellency invited Bishop Bartholomew to all future functions at Government House and stated that it was an honour meeting him, meeting for the first time the Greek Orthodox Bishop of Queensland.
