With the blessing of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, Bishop Bartholomew of Brisbane participated in events commemorating the 51st anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.
The day began with a memorial prayer service for the fallen, followed by the laying of wreaths at the Parish and Community of Saint George in Brisbane South.
Following the memorial, a commemorative event was held at the “Cypriot House” in Brisbane. During the gathering, Bishop Bartholomew urged politicians from all parties to support the just cause of Cyprus. He also encouraged attendees to continue praying to God for justice and peace.
Bishop Bartholomew conveyed the love and blessings of Archbishop Makarios to all.
The commemorations showed the ongoing solidarity of the Cypriot diaspora in Australia with the homeland’s enduring struggle for justice and reunification.
