Bishop of Elpidios of Kyanes celebrated his name day for the first time since his election as Bishop in Perth on Saturday and Sunday, November 14 and 15 in memory of the Holy Glorious Martyr Elpidios.
On Saturday evening, a Hierarchical Festal Vespers was celebrated, officiated by Bishop Elpidios at the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen, and a reception followed in the adjacent hall of the Greek community in honor of the Bishop.
The priest in charge of the church, Fr. Eleftherios Gerovasilis, on behalf of all the priests sent his wishes to the Bishop as reported by vema.com.au.
The Bishop emphasized the immense love of Saint Elpidios for God, as he did not renounce his faith in Jesus Christ and preferred martyrdom to earthly pleasures.
He also mentioned to the audience the magnitude of the paternal love and affection of Archbishop Makarios of Australia and asked them to pray both for the Archbishop and for him to carry out the difficult task of the episcopal ministry.
On his name day, Bishop Elpidios officiated the Divine Liturgy at the Church of Agios Nektarios and then he received the wishes from the congregation both inside the church and at the festive meal in honor of Saint Nektarios and Bishop Elpidios’s name day.
It is worth noting the love and appreciation of the faithful of Perth for the Bishop, who participated with enthusiasm in the festive services.
