The sacred memory of Saint Andrew the Apostle, the First-Called, was celebrated with great solemnity and heartfelt devotion at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew in Birmingham. The services were presided over by Bishop Maximos of Melitene, surrounded by clergy from the region and a large gathering of faithful.
On Saturday evening, the community gathered for the Great Festal Hierarchical Vespers with Artoklasia, officiated by Bishop Maximos. Clergy from across the wider area participated in the service, honoring the patron saint of the parish.
The homily was delivered by Archimandrite Vissarion Kokliotis, who spoke on the meaning of missionary witness in the modern world.
On Sunday, 30 November, the feast day itself, Bishop Maximos presided at Orthros and then celebrated the Festal Divine Liturgy. During the service, he preached to the faithful in both Greek and English, reflecting on the enduring message of Saint Andrew’s calling and its relevance for contemporary life.
In a special moment for the community, the Bishop also performed the tonsure of a new Reader, offering prayers and blessings for strength and enlightenment in his new ministry at the chanter’s stand.
The festivities concluded with a celebratory parish meal in the church hall, where clergy and parishioners joined together in an atmosphere of joy, fellowship, and unity.
