A summit in a third country was proposed today by US President Joe Biden in a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, the White House announced.
According to the statement, Biden asked Putin to help “reduce tensions” and suggested that they meet “in a third country” in the coming months to “build a stable and predictable relationship with Russia.”
The US president made it clear that Washington would defend its national interests against Russia’s actions, such as cyber-attacks and interference in elections.
The two leaders discussed issues related to arms control and security. Biden expressed concern “about the sudden concentration of Russian units in occupied Crimea and on the borders with Ukraine.” He also stressed that the United States remains committed to the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
