The Benelux Orthodox Youth Committee of the Metropolis of Belgium, with the blessing of the Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium, organised a teleconference on 17 October 2020 instead of the annual meeting which had to be postponed.
The topic of the meeting was the attitude of Christians towards the pandemic. Elder Patriciu Vlaicu, Head of the Parishes of the Patriarchate of Romania in Belgium and a University professor, spoke of the matter in his lecture called “Do not be afraid” .
Young people of different nationalities participated in this spiritual meeting and had the opportunity to pray together, share their spiritual experiences and ask questions on the subject.
At the end of the meeting, the conclusions of the young people were expressed in a friendly and spiritual envrionment that. They also confirmed the fact that we all had the same spiritual identity, which is expressed by our participation in the Body of Christ in the Church despite the different nationalities and the pandemic.
The meeting was opened by Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium, who encouraged the participants not to be afraid.
Since 1979, the Orthodox Youth of the Holy Metropolis of Belgium has been organising meetings of Orthodox youth to facilitate the mutual access of young people to their common spiritual path.
