The deputy head of the External Church Relations Department of the Moscow Patriarchate, Protoiereus Nikolay Balashov, made statements regarding the conversion of the Chora Church into a mosque, after some pictures that have been circulating online showing that mosaics and frescoes have been erased inside the Chora Church.
In a post on Facebook, Nikolay Balashov, referring to the pictures, comments on the Chora Church in Constantinople, after its conversion into a mosque; “Chora Church: Before and Now.”
He deems that act as a “terrible modern barbarism” and that it will “make Orthodox Christians unhappy”. “The extant strong evidence of what Constantinople once used to be, the Queen and Mother of all Cities, is now being ‘burnt’ before our eyes and being plunged into darkness. Anybody with two eyes can see that,” he added.
