On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the declaration of the Greek Revolution, the Prime Minister of Australia, Scott Morrison, communicated with Archbishop Makarios of Australia, from whom he was informed about this year’s festivities, and spoke warmly about the Australians of Greek descent.
Speaking in the federal parliament the Prime Minister of Australia stated that this is “an important day for Hellenism”.
“We address to all Greeks and especially to a very good friend of our country, the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with whom we have close cooperation and especially in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic”, said Morrison and added “Australia is blessed for having citizens of Greek descent”, while he did not fail to make special reference to the Orthodox priests and the work they perform in their parishes.
