Australian Federal MP Matt Thistlethwaite announced on Tuesday that a re-elected Labor Government under Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will commit $500,000 to support the comprehensive upgrade of the St. Spyridon Parish Hall in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.
The announcement was made during Mr. Thistlethwaite’s visit to the Parish of St. Spyridon, where he met with parish clergy Fr. Stylianos Skouteris and Fr. Stavros Ivano, as well as Parish President Mr. Elias Economou.
This pre-election commitment will fund a wide range of renovation works, including structural improvements, facility modernization, and the upgrade of communal spaces that will benefit the vibrant Greek Orthodox community in the area.
“The Albanese Government has consistently supported cultural institutions that preserve and honor Greek heritage across the region, recognizing the profound contribution of Greek Australians to the multicultural identity of our nation,” stated Mr. Thistlethwaite.
As per standard Commonwealth procedure, the funding will be implemented in accordance with the Commonwealth Grants Rules and Guidelines.
“St. Spyridon has been at the heart of the Greek community in Eastern Sydney for generations, hosting everything from language schools to cultural celebrations,” said Mr. Thistlethwaite.
“This $500,000 investment ensures that this vital community space can continue to serve families for decades to come,” he added.
He emphasized that “our Greek community has helped shape the character and vibrancy of our area, and only a re-elected Labor Government under Anthony Albanese will continue to provide the support these essential cultural institutions deserve.”
