January 22, 2026, has been declared a National Day of Mourning in Australia to honor the victims of the antisemitic terrorist attack in Bondi, Sydney.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced this decision following a request from Rabbi Ulman, the spiritual leader of the Chabad community in Bondi, and in consultation with the Premier of New South Wales.
The day’s theme is “Light Will Prevail,” and it will include a “Unity and Remembrance” gathering organized by the rabbi, who lost family members in the attack.
Flags will also be flown at half-staff on all Commonwealth buildings across Australia. Further details will be announced by the end of the week.
