Catholicos Karekin II of All Armenians called on the Armenian government to provide the Armenian people with all necessary explanations regarding the signing of an agreement to end hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh.
“The decision upsets the souls of the Armenians. We call on the authorities of Armenia and Artsakh (editor’s note: Armenians’ name for Nagorno-Karabakh) to provide comprehensive and complete explanations regarding the decision and its impact on the future of the country.”
According to Karekin’s written statement, Armenia’s actions must be sober and wise. “We must overcome the crisis through the joint efforts of those responsible for the foreign policy of Armenia and Artsakh,” the statement said.
It is recalled that after the announcement of the cessation of hostilities, thousands of Armenians took to the streets of Yerevan last night and defaced public buildings in reaction to the agreement. This agreement satisfies Azerbaijan’s territorial claims, while Russia has already sent a peacekeeping force to the region.
According to statements by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, Turkey will also participate with its forces in the peacekeeping force in the region. The hostilities stopped at 00.00 Moscow time (01.00 Greek time).
