The Ecumenical Patriarchate Archons in Canada held a virtual Board of Directors meeting on Saturday, January 10, 2026, to open the New Year.
The Board discussed milestones achieved in 2025 including its support of the Holy Metropolis of Imbros and Tenedos (the birthplace of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew), calling on the Government of Canada to protect persecuted Christians and working with the World Hellenic Inter-Parliamentary Association on a religious freedom resolution, and organizing a Parliamentary celebration of the recent historic meeting between the Pope and Ecumenical Patriarch.
The Board also discussed the new annual celebration of “Archon Sunday,” and expressed its gratitude towards Archbishop Sotirios for his support and blessing of this and all work undertaken by the Archons in Canada. This particular initiative is a wonderful example of the cross-border collaboration, and sharing of best practices, between Archons in the United States and Canada.
Looking forward, members of the Board reviewed options to further raise awareness of and support for the Ecumenical Patriarchate, including among elected officials at the federal and provincial levels. They also discussed the possibility of a delegation of Archons visiting the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
Additional possible initiatives were discussed that align with the three foundational pillars identified at the November 1st virtual Archon symposium: internal learning and teaching; national engagement among the broader Canadian society; and, international support of the Patriarchate and its Eparchies.
The Board concluded its deliberations by acknowledging and appreciating the support provided by all Archons across Canada, by reiterating its thankfulness to Archbishop Sotirios, and by recommitting to work in support of the Mother Church of Constantinople.
