The Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, chaired by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew at the Center of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Sambezi, Geneva, elected today Bishop of Daphnousia, Archimandrite Smaragdos Karagiannidis, Protosyncellus of the Metropolis of Chalcedon.
The new bishop will serve as assistant to Metropolitan Elder Athanasios of Chalcedon.
Archimandrite Smaragdos Karagiannidis officiated as priest in charge in the church of Prophet Elias, Chrysoupolis, Scutari.
