By the blessing of Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, Archimandrite Pedro Gomez has been appointed as the new Assistant Pastor of the historic and loving community of Saints Demetrios and Catherine in Astoria, Queens, NY.
Paul Gómez (Παύλος Γκόμες) was born in Mexico City on February 5, 1993. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from the Instituto Mora in Mexico in 2018, and later graduated with highest distinction from the School of Theology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2024 with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Theology. He is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Orthodox Theology at the same university, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Ekaterini Tsalampouni.
On August 30, 2021, he was tonsured a monk by His Eminence Metropolitan Joseph of Buenos Aires at the Holy Trinity Monastery of Halki, and the following day, was ordained to the diaconate by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, receiving the name Petros by the will and blessing of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. He was ordained to the holy priesthood by Archbishop Elpidophoros on January 27, 2024, at the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen in Ilioupolis, Thessaloniki, and was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite on December 6 of the same year at Saint Nicholas Church in Flushing, NY.
Since February 2024, Father Pedro has served as Assistant Priest at the Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour in Corona, Queens. In addition to his native Spanish, he is fluent in Greek, English, French, Italian, and Latin.
