The Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was performed by the Great Ecclesiarch of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, Archimandrite Stephanos, while Archimandrites Paisios and Joachim and Deacon Parthenios attended prayerfully the service. The lead singer of the Greek Community of Cairo, Giannis Kountrias, sang.
After the Divine Liturgy, Dimitra Liapi, teacher of the Achillopouleio School, delivered a speech on the topic: “The message of 1821 in our time” at the Spiritual Patriarchal Center near the church.
Dimitra Liapi was introduced to the audience by Archimandrite Stefanos who conveyed the love and wishes of Patriarch Theodore II as well as of the Metropolitan of Memphis and Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo, Nikodimos.
The speaker looked at the history of the struggle of the Greeks for freedom, illuminating the three fronts of the revolutionary course; military, political and diplomatic. She expounded upon the difficulties and the successes of the revolutionary course until the final liberation.
The Divine Liturgy and the anniversary speech were attended, among others, by the Greek Ambassador to Egypt, Nikolaos Garilidis. The Greek Community of Cairo was represented by Willy-Politou Zoue.
