On the fourth Sunday of Lent, Metropolitan Seraphim of Kastoria visited Kleisoura, where he served in the Holy Temple of Saint Demetrios on the occasion of the events of honour and memory for the 270 inhabitants who were unjustly slaughtered by the Nazi occupying forces on April 5, 1944.
The events of honor and memory were organized jointly by the Municipality of Kastoria and the Local Martyric Community of Kleisoura.
Fathers Nicholas and Vassilios, priests of Kleisoura, and Deacon Agathonikos served along with Metropolitan Seraphim.
In his sermon, Seraphim referred to the reading of the Evangelical passage (Mark 9:17-31) and to the honoured Saint John Climacus. At the end of the Divine Liturgy a memorial of the victims of Kleisoura was held.
The Mayor of Kastoria, Mr. A. Angelis, the ViceGovernor of the region of Kastoria, Mr. S. Adamopoulos, the former President of the Hellenic Parliament, Mr F. Petsalinikos, the MPs Mr M. Antoniou of Kastoria and Mr C. Theophylakos and Mr. G. Kasapidis of Kozani, the Consul General of Germany in Thessaloniki, Mr. B. Stecher, Representatives of the Armed Forces, the Security Corps, the Center of Studies of the Jewish Heritage of Kastoria, the Central Israeli Council, Resistance Organizations, other Officials and a crowd of people also attended the events.
