On Sunday, March 29, 2026, the Sunday of Thomas, Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Divine Wisdom in Bayswater, London.
Concelebrating with Archbishop Nikitas were Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne Theonas Bakalis, the Revd Presbyter Georgios Ntallas, and the Revd Archdeacon George Tsourous.
In his homily, Archbishop Nikitas reflected on the figure of the Apostle Thomas, noting that it is something of an injustice to remember him chiefly as “doubting” or “unfaithful.” Thomas, he reminded the faithful, did not remain in disbelief, but came to a clear and profound confession of faith: “My Lord and my God.”
The Archbishop emphasised that Thomas’s journey is, in many ways, our own. We too seek, we question, and yet we come – as the faithful had come that very day – to stand before the Risen Christ in the life of the Church. Our presence at the Divine Liturgy is itself an act of faith, a response to the same invitation extended to Thomas.
In this way, Archbishop Nikitas encouraged the faithful not to see Thomas as a figure set apart, but as one who leads us into a deeper and more conscious confession of the Resurrection.
Following the Divine Liturgy, refreshments were offered, giving the faithful the opportunity for fellowship and continued celebration of the feast.
