The work of the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia continued today, Friday, August 22, 2025, in Sydney. The Synod has been meeting in extraordinary session since yesterday under the chairmanship of Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
Following the proposal of Archbishop Makarios , the Synod proceeded to a ballot and drew up the three-person list (triprosopon) for the Holy Diocese of Canberra as follows:
- Archdeacon Athinagoras Karakonstantakis
- Archimandrite Amphilochios Papantoniou
- Hieromonk Nektarios Sitaras
Similarly, by ballot, the Synod prepared the triprosopon for the position of Auxiliary Bishop to the Archbishop, who will serve as Protosyncellus of the Archdiocese of Australia and as Episcopal Commissioner of the Archdiocesan District, as follows:
- Archimandrite Christoforos Krikelis
- Archimandrite Amphilochios Papantoniou
- Archimandrite Eusevios Karavasios
The results of the triprosopon formation will be forwarded to the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, in accordance with the Constitution of the Archdiocese of Australia, for the canonical process of electing the new bishops.
Once again, the Holy Eparchial Synod expressed its deep gratitude to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, whose vision and broad ecclesiastical perspective ensure that the life of the local Church is placed on the proper ecclesiological foundation.
The Synod will resume its work tomorrow, Saturday, August 23, 2025.
