The Holy Archdiocese of Australia is pleased to present to the Greek Diaspora and the wider Australian society the first official television ad regarding the anniversary program of the celebrations of the National Commission for the 200 years since the Greek Revolution.
This particular ad is available in Greek and English, aiming to show to both the younger and the older the national and at the same time ecclesiastical dimension of the Great Struggle made in 1821 by the enslaved Greeks for 400 years in order to become free and politically autonomous again.
This first TV ad points out some of the main characteristics of the physiognomy of Greeks through the centuries, such as valiance, vigor, self-sacrifice and philotimo, while at the same time it reaffirms the need for the Hellenism to remain devoted to its religious faith, the universal ideals that as a civilization gave birth to, as well as the great vision of freedom.
In the words of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, this unique anniversary of 200 years of Greek independence calls on all Greek Orthodox to remember again their roots: those martyred for our faith and the heroes of our nation!
