In the morning of Saturday, December 26, during the Divine Liturgy for the feast of the Synaxis of the Virgin Mary, two great events took place at the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation; the ordination of Fr. Asterios Zouriakas as a deacon and the awarding of the Order of Philochriston to an excellent member of the Greek community and the Australian society, Panagiotis Sachtouris.
Panagiotis Sachtouris was presented with the official medal of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia for his morality, his devotion to the traditions and ideals of the nation and his continuous and constant support for the local Church.
Archbishop Makarios spoke of a faithful and pious man, whose personality and actions honors his ancestors’ legacy, manners, customs, traditions and, above all, faith, while he and his family have been actively supporting the work of the local Church for many years.
“Upon awarding the Order of Philochrsiston to Panagiotis Sachtouris, I want to thank him for what he has done and wish God to give him a lot of strength and many years, with health and spiritual and family joys, to continue this beautiful path, this commendable path of love and offering both to the Archdiocese and to our society,” said, among other things, the Archbishop.
In the end, clergy and faithful chanted “Worthy” together with the Archbishop, confirming the recognition of the offer and merit of Panagiotis Sachtouris.
