It was with great sadness that I was informed about the falling asleep in the Lord of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
By all accounts, the late Prince Philip served the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth for decades with great dedication, was a steadfast support for the members of the royal family, devoted himself to philanthropic works and was known for his sensitivity regarding environmental issues as well as being a strong supporter of the youth.
For these reasons, he undoubtedly earned the respect and appreciation of everyone, including the people of Australia.
On behalf of the Bishops, the reverend Clergy and the monastic brotherhoods of our Holy Archdiocese, and conveying the feelings of our Christ-loving plenitude, I express my deepest condolences to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, to the royal family, as well as to the Australian and British people and to all the citizens of the Commonwealth countries who today mourn his loss.
May his memory be eternal.
