The Holy Eparchial Synod of the Archdiocese of Australia concluded its sessions today, August 23, 2025, after convening in an extraordinary meeting from August 21 under the presidency of Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
Following the opening prayer, the minutes of the previous session were approved, and the Synod proceeded to review the items on its agenda.
Among other matters, the Synod closely followed developments concerning the historic Monastery of St. Catherine at Mount Sinai. Through the Embassy of Egypt in Australia, a letter was sent to Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, expressing the concern of Orthodox and monastic faithful in Australia regarding the preservation of the Monastery’s status and calling on the authorities to respect its centuries-old privileges.
In addition, the Synod unanimously approved the request to grant Panagiotis Kyriazopoulos, from the Immediate Archdiocesan District, canonical permission to preach the Word of God in churches during the Divine Liturgy, other services, and ceremonies.
Finally, the Synod, observing the ongoing suffering caused by wars, prayed for peace throughout the world and called upon the faithful to pray for the cessation of all conflicts everywhere.
