The Archdiocesan District Council met for their first meeting of the New Ecclesiastical Year at the Archdiocese Headquarters in New York.
Archbishop Elpidophoros blessed the members of the District Council with their Affirmation of Office.
The meeting began by wishing Archbishop Elpidophoros a blessed and happy feast day celebrated on November 2nd, wishing His Eminence MANY YEARS after 5 1/2 years of faithful service to the Archdiocese of America. Archbishop Elpidophoros thanked the council members who have dedicated their time, talents, and expertise to the various ministries of the Archdiocese.
Fr. Elias Villis, Chancellor of the Archdiocesan District, welcomed the new Vice Chairwoman of the district, Stephanie Clark, and also thanked the outgoing Vice Chairman, Mr. Nicholas Balidis, for his outstanding service to the District. Bishop Athenagoras was welcomed as the Archiepiscopal Vicar of the Greek Orthodox Churches in Astoria. Bishop Athenagoras thanked all the clergy and faithful for joining the beautiful celebrations of St Demetrios and welcoming the miracle working icon of Kardiotissa. Elaine Allen, as the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Treasurer, thanked all of our parishes for their commitment and support of the ministries of the Archdiocese and District. The progress that has been made with everyone’s help in overcoming various challenges, while seeing tremendous growth in the progress of the parishes should be commended.
Dean Mihaltsas reported on the ongoing construction of the new St Michael’s Home in Uniondale, New York. A presentation was delivered showing the progress that has been made in construction, but efforts must continue in raising funds for the home. Various ministry reports were presented on the subjects of Youth Protection, Religious Education, and Ladies Philoptochos.
Several upcoming events were highlighted, including: Archbishop Elpidophoros of America’s Name Day Liturgy will be celebrated on November 2, at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. The Annual Gala celebrating His Eminence’s Name Day will be held on November 17, at Terrace on the Park, with proceeds going to the Camping Ministry Endowment.
