On Holy Tuesday, 15th April 2025, the Orthodox Community of the Holy Apostles in Leyland was honoured to receive its first archpastoral visit from Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain.
Upon arrival, Archbishop Nikitas officiated at the Service of the Bridegroom, where he was warmly received by the Reverend Presbyter Fr Dionysios-James Higgs, who is currently the Priest-in-charge. After the service, Archbishop Nikitas addressed the congregation, expressing his joy at seeing a vibrant parish and a strong presence of young people gathered during the solemn days of Holy Week.
Archbishop Nikitas also offered words of appreciation and encouragement to Fr Dionisios for his faithful ministry, and paid tribute to the efforts of those who have served the parish in previous years, particularly recognising the foundational work of Fr Christodoulos Fyles, under whom the community was first established.
A highlight of the evening was the elevation of Alexander Zhelezniak to the office of Reader, a joyful milestone for the community and a sign of its continuing spiritual growth.
Following the service, the Parish Council hosted a reception, providing a warm and intimate setting for Archbishop Nikitas to engage with parishioners. Archbishop Nikitas invited questions from those present, responding with insight and pastoral care on matters of faith and Church life.
During the evening, Archbishop Nikitas also offered guidance on the challenges facing Orthodox communities today—speaking on the importance of missionary outreach, catechetical formation, and youth engagement—while encouraging the faithful to persevere in the life of the Church with hope and love.
