On Friday 27 March 2026, Archbishop Nikitas presided over the Service of the Akathist Hymn to the Most Holy Theotokos at the Cathedral of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Wood Green.
Clergy and faithful gathered in a prayerful spirit during this sacred season of Great Lent, offering the praises of the Church to the Mother of God through the beautiful and solemn hymn of the Akathist.
At the conclusion of the service, he addressed the congregation, reflecting on the person of the Most Holy Theotokos. He spoke of her humility, obedience, and unwavering trust in God, holding her up as a living example for all the faithful. He reminded those present that the Mother of God stands close to the life of the Church, interceding for all who turn to her with faith, and encouraged the faithful to draw nearer to Christ during this Lenten period, following her example.
Following the service, he also visited the Greek folk dance group which meets regularly in the Cathedral hall. He offered his blessing for their efforts, recognising the importance of such initiatives in nurturing community life and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the faithful.
