Archbishop of Thyateira ordained Deacon Georgios Ntallas to Holy Priesthood

On Saturday, March 28, 2026, Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain ordained Deacon Georgios Ntallas to the Holy Priesthood.

Archbishop Nikitas presided over Matins and celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Divine Wisdom in Bayswater, London.

Among those concelebrating were the V. Revd Archimandrite Petros, Abbot of the Patriarchal and Stavropegic Monastery of St John the Baptist in Essex; the V. Revd Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne Theonas Bakalis; the V. Revd Archimandrite Vissarion Kokliotis; the V. Revd Hieromonk Methodios; the V. Revd Hieromonk Parthenios; the Revd Oeconomos Nikolaos Kokkinos; the Revd Oeconomos Kristian Akselberg; the Revd Presbyter Pavlos Lambrou; the Revd Hieromonk Bartholomew; the Revd Presbyter Andreas Minic; the Revd Presbyter Dimitrios Mamouchas; and the Revd Archdeacon George Tsourous. The V. Revd Archimandrite Zacharias, also of the Monastery in Essex, participated prayerfully in the altar.

Addressing Archbishop Nikitas, the concelebrating clergy, and those gathered, Fr Georgios spoke with deep emotion and humility. He reflected on his ordination to the diaconate two years earlier, when he was received through the trust of the Church and the blessing of His Eminence, and spoke of how, by the grace of God, he was now called to take a further step in his ministry through ordination to the priesthood.

He remarked that he did not come from an academic theological background but rather from a life of practical service, having worked in the hospitality industry. There, he learned to offer food to nourish the body. Archbishop Nikitas, however, recognised something deeper in this offering and called him to serve in a new way – to offer the “Bread of Life”, Christ Himself, for the nourishment of the souls of the faithful.

He expressed heartfelt thanks to Archbishop Nikitas for his paternal care and guidance, and to the V. Revd Archimandrite Theonas, his spiritual father and confessor. He also offered gratitude to his parents, his wife who stands beside him sharing quietly in the cross of priestly life, and to all those who had gathered to support him. He concluded by acknowledging that his ordination to the priesthood marks not only a change in rank but also a profound increase in responsibility towards every person in need, and he asked for the prayers of all present.
In his response, His Eminence spoke warmly of Fr Georgios’ simplicity of heart and genuine humility, noting these not as secondary qualities, but as the very foundation of authentic priestly ministry. He emphasised that the grace of the priesthood does not rest upon academic formation alone, but upon a pure and receptive heart.

Drawing a parallel with the Holy Apostles, Archbishop Nikitas reminded those present that the first disciples of Christ were not men of formal education, yet they became vessels of divine grace, precisely because of their obedience, sincerity, and openness to God. In the same way, he noted, Fr Georgios’ path bears witness to this living tradition of the Church. He expressed his confidence that such humility and simplicity, when preserved and deepened, would not only sustain his ministry but also become a quiet light for others – a witness that speaks not through words alone, but through the integrity of one’s life.

A community meal followed in the Crypt beneath the church, where clergy and faithful gathered in a spirit of joy and thanksgiving for this blessed occasion.
