On Sunday, February 8, 2026, Archbishop Nikitas presided at Matins and celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Church of Saint Athanasios in Cambridge.
Concelebrating with him were Metropolitan Georgios of Guinea, Archimandrite Ieronymos Sotirelis, Grand Syncellos of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Presbyter Gregory Craveiro, Priest-in-Charge, and the Reverend Archdeacon George Tsourous.
The service was prayerfully attended by the faithful of the parish and visitors from across the region. The chanting, led beautifully by Dimitri Vitsias, greatly enriched the liturgical celebration.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, Archbishop Nikitas elevated Mr Michael Trend to the rank of Reader, praying that the Lord grant him strength and steadfastness in his new ministry within the Church.
A festive community meal followed, offering clergy and faithful the opportunity to greet the Archbishop and continue the fellowship of the day. During the Mr Evangelos Asimakos, President of the Community, warmly welcomed the Archbishop and expressed the gratitude of the parish for his pastoral visit.
Also, Professor Ianthi-Maria Tsimpli of the Cambridge Centre for Greek Studies presented His Eminence with a commemorative plaque in recognition of his continued support for the Centre. In his response, His Eminence thanked the clergy and faithful for their dedication and witness, and announced a donation in support of both the Cambridge Centre for Greek Studies and the Parish Greek Language School.
The Parish Greek Language School also hosted a short celebration highlighting the significance of the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple (Hypapante), and reminded all present of the joy of receiving Christ and bearing witness to Him within the life of the Church.
The visit was a joyful occasion for the community of Saint Athanasios and a tangible expression of the close bonds between the Archdiocese and the faithful in Cambridge.
